Cavapoo

The Cavapoo is a devoted companion, but there are specific predispositions to consider. They are more likely to experience separation anxiety if left alone for long periods, so they thrive best in households where someone is home most of the day. Their floppy ears can trap moisture, making them prone to ear infections (otitis externa), requiring weekly cleaning. Because of their small mouths, they can be susceptible to dental overcrowding and periodontal disease, so regular teeth cleaning is essential. From the Cavalier side, they are more likely to be predisposed to Mitral Valve Disease (MVD) and Syringomyelia, while the Poodle side introduces a predisposition to Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and luxating patellas. These are not certainties, but owners should prioritize health-screened parents. Additionally, Cavapoos are more likely to develop digestive sensitivities or food intolerances, often reacting to fillers or artificial additives in commercial kibble, and many thrive significantly better on a clean, fresh-food diet. Their coat, while low-shedding, can mat easily without frequent professional grooming, which is an important ongoing cost to consider.
